Irene Robillard was raised on a dairy farm near the hamlet of Edwards, which is now in the southeast end of the extended city of Ottawa. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Hon.) degree in Biology from Carleton University in 1974. While there, she met and married a handsome graduate student by the name of Jim.
Irene and Jim reside near the village of Burnstown. Their children are now grown with families of their own. After nearly three decades of commuting to her job with Revenue Canada in Ottawa, primarily in the Information Technology sector, Irene decided to leave the fast pace and spend more time in her country surroundings.
Irene has always enjoyed history and genealogy. She is a life member of the Burnstown Women’s Institute and volunteers at the Arnprior and McNab/Braeside Archives and also serves on its board. In 2008, Irene received a Certificate of Achievement from the Ontario Heritage Trust for her volunteer work to identify, preserve, protect, and promote the province’s rich heritage.
Her first book, Burnstown United Church 1849-1999, was published in 1999 to celebrate her church’s milestone and includes genealogical information of the families who attended the church.
