Maggie’s Choice

Set against the momentous events of the early twentieth century, Maggie’s Choice, written by Susan Taylor Meehan, is both a romance and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

Sister Maggie, an army nurse, encounters John Hardie, a Canadian soldier, after the second battle of Ypres in 1915.  They gradually fall in love, and as the war deepens, Maggie unexpectedly discovers a clandestine operation that pits John against both German and Allied revolutionaries.  This struggle continues after the war and culminates in the historic Winnipeg General Strike four years later.  The many casualties of war ─ mental and physical wounds, economic recession, social unrest, insurrection, and loss ─ take their toll, but their love endures.
