In the Garden of My Mind by Robert John Christy
“You picked up a poetry book. Going to buy it?”
“Are you crazy? Spend money to read stuff that no one can understand? No way.”
“I hear you. Have the same problem. But In the Garden of My Mind is different. The language is just the way you and I talk. No riddles. Maybe a metaphor or two. In many ways the poems are mini stories of both real and fictional people. Little snapshots of their lives.
“I bet you probably know people with similar snapshots; women, men, kids. Ordinary, reflective, funny, sad happenings.
“Oh and there are a few characters to amuse you, like the old greaser who prayed every night:
Now I lay me down to sleep.
Lying here, counting sheep.
If I should die before I wake,
Then I’m off the government take.
But if I should live for other days,
Then, dear Lord, the gov’ still pays.
“Go on Buy it. Discover some other interesting people.”
