Brian Martin

Brian “Chip” Martin, a journalist living in London, Ontario, has published two true-crime books. Ernie Martin was his great uncle.

His first book was Buxbaum: A Murderous Affair, a 1986 paperback about the slaying of Hanna Buxbaum arranged by her husband, Helmuth, a millionaire London, Ontario-area nursing home operator. Buxbaum was, to all appearances, a model citizen, a pillar of his church, and a devoted father of six.

Martin’s other book was Never Enough: The Remarkable Frauds of Julius Menitzer, published in 1993. This was the story of a highly successful lawyer who orchestrated the biggest bank fraud committed by an individual in Canadian history.

Brian’s research for Ernie’s Gold started with photgraphs and documents retained by his family and led him to places far away as England and the Western United States, by way of the Internet, and to closer locales by way of travel. Along the way, he not only discovered more about his family, but brough together relatives who had never met or who had been estranged from each other.

Just as ErnieMartin was enriched by his digging, his great-nephew has come to appreciate the value of persistence, hard work, and sticking with a dream – in this case, of sharing a great story.
