Angela Mackay
Born and raised in London, UK, a graduate of the University of Wales, Angela spent three years as a teacher of English in Botswana. Travel throughout southern Africa during the “apartheid” years, and a further five years in Africa launched a career in teaching and training.
In 1978 Angela emigrated to Canada, which brought her into the peacekeeping world, including as Director of Programmes, at the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre in Nova Scotia.
Seconded to the UN mission on Kosovo, Angela authored UN’s first “Gender and Peacekeeping” training manual and developed and delivered training for numerous UN and other international institutions on the topics of gender equality, human trafficking, and conflict management.
Her final assignment in 2012-13 was a UNESCO literacy project for the Afghan National Police.
Once ‘retired’ Angela unpacked her notebooks, a collection of stories, notes, observations and memories – and started to write.
Her first book, a collection of nonfiction short stories, Wordly Views, was published in 2024. The Chief is her first novel.
