Reverend Ernest Lloyd Lake

Ernest Lloyd Lake, B.A, L.Th., Dip.C.C., P.H.F., was born in Toronto, Ontario, on July 17, 1918. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army while studying at Union College (UBC) and Huron College (UWO) to become a chaplain. His sixty-five years of service began when he was ordained Deacon at All Saints Church, Windsor, Ontario.

Sgt. Lake served at Vancouver, B.C. and London, Ontario (C.O.T.C.). Captain Lake served at Wainwright, Alberta, in Korea, and at Camp Valcartier in Quebec. Reverend Lake taught at Humber College and wrote several books including Seventy-Five Years of Service, a history of the Rotary Club of Saint John in 1991.

His years in service were recognized in many ways, including the installation of Canon (Honorary) of Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, NB, four Paul Harris Fellowships presented by the Rotary Foundation, the dedication of the Rev. E. Lloyd Lake Park at Turnbull Place in Saint John, the 2009 New Brunswick Day Merit Award, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal (2003) and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012).

Reverend Lake passed away peacefully on October 5, 2013.
