John Curry, a Carleton University journalism graduate, began his community newspaper career with the Arnprior Guide and then moved to the Elmvale Lance. In 1975, he purchased The Stittsville News, continuing as publisher and editor until 2001 when he sold the paper but continued on as editor. He remained as editor until the paper was shut down by ownership in 2018. John currently writes for the Stittsville Richmond Community Voice newspaper.

In 1993, John wrote and published Richmond on the Jock, a book outlining the history of the village of Richmond, which was celebrating the 175th anniversary of its founding year. He is a life member of the Goulbourn Township Historical Society and currently is a member of the board of directors of the Goulbourn Museum. He is a former chair of the Goulbourn Township Local Architectural and Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) and served on the city of Ottawa’s LACAC from 2001 to 2009.

Over the years, John has made a number of historical presentations at Goulbourn Township Historical Society meetings.

John received the Goulbourn Businessman of the Year award in 1991 and the Roger Griffiths Memorial Citizen of the Year award for Golbourn in 1994. He was selected as Goulbourn Citizen of the Year in the People’s Choice Business Awards sponsored by the Kanata Chamber of Commerce in 2009. In 2015, he received the Heritage Advocacy Award from the Goulbourn Museum.

John served on the Goulbourn Hydro Electric Commission from 1988 to 2000 and has served as a trustee on the Ottawa Catholic School Trustees
Association in 2018. He was chair of the Board’s Historical Committee when the publication A Faith-Filled Mission: 150 Years of Catholic Education in Ottawa-Carleton 1856-2006 was produced.

From 1989 to 2009, John served as editor of the weekly bulletin of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish in Stittsville.

John has partnered with Sandy Durocher of Navigator Communications of Stittsville to produce historical videos on a 1938 bank robbery in Richmond and on       the Robert Grant father and son who were prominent personalities on Stittsville’s first century of existence. He and Sandy have also collaborated on producing a full-length documentary film on the history of Richmond released in 2018.

John lives in the Healey’s Heath subdivision in Stittsville.
