Go Kings Go! by Jamie Bramburger
Canada’s hockey passion is deep, rich and surprisingly complex in countless places across the country. Places like Pembroke, Ontario, home of the storied Lumber Kings hockey club.
For more than a century, both the senior and junior Lumber Kings attracted players from Canada, the United States and even Europe. Home grown talent like the Giesebrecht brothers and rare finds like Dainius Zubrus from Lithuania thrilled hockey fans in this hockey mad community, which also produced three Hockey Hall of Famers, an incredible feat given the size of Pembroke.
The long storied history of Pembroke’s beloved Lumber Kings is a stirring example of how the drama, the struggles, the triumphs and the disappointments of one town’s team can, over decades, lift hearts, build bridges and sustain the bonds of community.
“Go Kings Go!” is both a celebration of Pembroke and a commemoration of all that the sport of hockey has meant to Hockey Town Canada. It’s a historical document and a page turner for anyone who cares about Pembroke and its ties to hockey.
